This Year's Model Updates:

Only minor changes are made to Chevrolet's bread-and-butter Silverado pickup for 2002. Some options packages have been revamped for easier ordering and all extended-cab models now come standard with a four-speed automatic transmission, with the manual no longer available.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended cab models, strong V8 engines, available composite bed, disc brakes at all four corners, optional traction control.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, sketchy build quality.

  • Good for what I use it for! - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Just rolled 100K the other week. Original everything. No complaints. Get about 14-15mpg with construction work in subdivisions and driving backwards 1/2 the time there. Not in a hurry to get a new Chevy, same interiorI Thought the plastic dash looked cheap on Chevy. No way on the Dodge, and everyone has Fords. Looking for a 3/4 ton and I test drove all three at the same time. I will definitely be going with the Duramax, and Chevys Smoooth HD ride. This pulls the 16 low-boy when needed, and gets me from A-to-B. nothing fancy. Hey, thats why I got it. Overall, Its good, just wish this truck wouldve had limited-slip.

  • Lifelong Chevy owner - may change - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Average vehicle to drive. 54,000 replaced air conditioning, power window motor. 74,000 rebuilt the transmission, 107,000 rebuilt the transmission. Dont flush the transmission, drop the pan. Only had flushed twice, once at dealer, once at ASE certified. Needed a new tranny within 2 days - both times. Get the 5.3, not 4.8 - no gas savings there. A very disappointed lifelong Chevy owner. Ive got a 94 Chevy 4.3L with 300K that runs better than this one.

My 2002 Silverado has been an outstanding truck. I just bought a 6000 LB trailer and it pulls it with ease, however rather slow on big hills and gas mileage is around 10 MPG but that was to be expected. My lease is now up and have decided to buy out the lease.

Love this truck, traded in a 2000,4.3l GMC Seirra Reg Cab. Having same problem I had on GMC, drivers side mirror shake terribly at 30 mph or higher. I pull a 25oo lb boat with it, never notice its there.

  • Sounds good on Paper,but... - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Mine is equipped with the Z71 option. Very annoying hesitation while in slow driving (heavy traffic)when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear followed by a hard shudder, then it shifts. Been to the dealer 6 times, tried many things, including replacing the transmission, to no relief. When factory representative drove it, he decided that since this problem is in other vehicles there was nothing he could do about it(New standard?). Shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear the same happens but to a lesser degree.

  • The Truck Id Always Wanted - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I had always loved short box extended cab Chevys. Upon seeing the redesign for 03 I had to run out and pick up an 02 (dont care for the Batmobile nose). Has simply been the best truck Ive ever owned. The 5.3L has excellent power and the cab is quiet and comfortable. Sensible driving returns about 16-17mpg in town and can get 20mpg highway if I keep my foot out of it, which can be difficult since its a lot of fun to jump on, occasionally.

  • Best Truck Ive Ever Driven! - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Been driving pickups since the mid-70s-this is the best truck Ive ever owned! This is a 2002 that I just bought 7/05 with 56K on it. Rides nice and is very quiet. Lots of conveniences. Getting around 17 mph highway with the 5.3 liter. Rear seats have reasonable amount of leg room and comfort too.
